HTC One Problems Roundup and Fixes

They say that if you cant succeed the first time, you should try again, maybe youll get things right the second time. This is what hapenned with HTC One Xs successor, the beautiful and remarkable HTC One. Although this smartphone was praised by most users and gadgets website alike, it still has its flaws and problems. In this article, I will try to gather some of the most important HTC One issues as spotted by users.

HTC One sound problem
There are a lot of users that reported an annoying noise coming from the sound system of HTC One, especially when the user is using headphones. The static noise is more often heard when the music is paused or when the tracks are chaning, in the pause between them. Also, popping noises have been reported when a notification sound plays. A possible fix for this problem is to turn of Beats Audio option from the notification panel and to turn of the NFC option. HTC has not release any statement regarding the sound issues encountered in HTC One, so it is still unknown if this happens because of the software or the hardware. As an aditional fix, you can try to use a different pair of headphones and see if the noise is still there.

Capacity buttons problem
In some cases, HTC Ones capacity buttons will not work properly, and when you are trying to use the phone the buttons will not light up. In order to see if there is a hardware problem, you could try to cover with your hand the proximity sensor located in the upper left part of HTC One. If you see no light on the buttons, you may experience a sensor malfunction. Also, you could try to download Android Sensor Box and diagnoze your smartphone.

Unresponsive buttons
This is probably very annoying, since most users are using those two main buttons found under the screen a lot. There was no oficial statement regarding this issue, but I have few possible solutions it: you may try to touch the display few times before using the butoons (this may improve the buttons), you can try to calibrate them from the menu (Settings - Language & keyboard - HTC Sense input - Advanced - Calibration tool) and try to slightly touch them while calibrating and ultimately you may try to remove the screen protector (if you are using one).

Dead or stuck pixels
This is a common issue found in LCD screens, and since the HTC One is using a 4.7″ Super LCD3 capacitive touchscreen, from time to time on of those pixels may get stuck on a specific color (red, blue or green). If the pixel is dead, you can do nothing about it. You may try to send the phone to the service and use the warrany, but Im not sure they will replace the display just because there is a dead pixel. So, in this case, youll end up with a display that has a tiny black pixel. If the pixel is just stuck on one of those colors (red, green, blue), you can try to use a stuck pixel remover from Play Store. If you are lucky, it will come back to life using that app.

HTC One is chargins slow
This problem was also encountered in HTC One X and its a shame that they did not fixed it so far. I know, the HTC One has a big capacity battery and it needs a lot of time to charge. But man, charging that smartphone for 5 hours is just too much! HTC said that the charging process is slower in order to maintain the batterys health to maximum for a long period of time, but what about our nerves? So, the possible solution is to use the wall charger (which seems to charge the phone faster) and try to charge it over night (I know, its a poor solution). Sorry guys!

Bad case, scratches
There are no other words to describe this issue. Some users reported that their HTC One had imperfect finishes. Strange bulges or gaps between the metal and the plastic were reported. If you bought a new HTC One and you dont like the build quality, the obvious solution is to return it and ask for a new one.

HTC One M8 tips and tricks

The HTC One M8 is without a shadow of a doubt the best phone to come out of HTCs labs for quite some time. More than just a cosmetic revision of last years popular HTC One, this new phone boasts a beefier processor, improved software and a raft of new features that allow it to compete with the Sony Xperia Z2 and Samsung Galaxy S5 on more than equal terms.

However, if youre a newcomer to smartphones - or are moving over from another operating system, such as iOS - then chances are youll find the HTC One M8 ever so slightly intimidating. Thats where we come in.

Below youll find handy hints, tips, tricks and secrets that will let you tame your powerful new mobile companion and look impossibly cool in front of your mates. Maybe.

Disable BlinkFeed

BlinkFeed is HTCs way of aggregating everything that is important to you, including RSS feeds, social networking updates, forthcoming calendar appointments and more. Its a pretty swell application, but Android purists often complain that it feels like its being forced upon them. If you fall into this camp then youll be pleased to know that theres a way to disable it completely.

On any homescreen, simply perform a "pinch zoom" gesture with two fingers. Youll see an overview of all your homescreens, with BlinkFeed appearing on the far left. Long-press BlinkFeed and then drag it to the "remove" icon - it will be banished forever, or at least until you decide that you want to reinstate it.

Use gestures to control your phone quickly and easily

The HTC One M8 is all about gestures, and it comes with a series of quick swipe gestures - branded "Motion Launch" by HTC - which can be used to open certain applications even when your phones display is powered down and its sitting on your coffee table.

A double-tap wakes or locks the phone, while swipes from the left and right open BlinkFeed or your home screen respectively. You can wake the phone in the state it was when it locked by swiping up from the bottom of the screen, and swiping downwards fires up the dialer so you can make a call quickly.

Take a photo in just two button presses

Sometimes the art of taking a good photo is being quick enough to capture the moment before it passes, and in the case of smartphones it can sometimes take a few seconds for your camera application to even load - by which time the opportunity to be the next David Bailey has long since passed.

Mercifully, HTC has bestowed a quick-snap feature on the One M8 - simply long-press the Volume Up button to activate the camera when your phone is in sleep mode, and then press Volume Down to take the shot.

Control when your phone should be heard

Theres nothing more annoying that your phone making a commotion when youre in a quiet office, especially when you own a HTC One M8 with its BoomSound technology and powerful stereo speakers. By using the phones built-in Do Not Disturb mode you can switch off all of these sounds in one fell swoop, and its even possible to schedule when your want the mode to be enforced.

Simply got to Settings > Sound and switch "Do Not Disturb" on. To schedule when youd like it to be active, tap the Do Not Disturb field a second time.

Hide annoying and pointless applications

HTC has done a decent job of keeping bloatware applications to a minimum on the One M8, but you may still find yourself wanting to get rid of some of the more annoying programs in your app drawer. Bloatware is so named because it cannot be uninstalled, but you can still hide it from view.

In the app drawer, tap the three dot icon in the top-right corner of the display and then select Hide/Unhide apps. Tick the ones you want to remove from view and youll be on your way to a less cluttered phone.

Answer a call just by picking the phone up

Theres nothing more natural than scooping up a phone and answering it in one motion, and the HTC One M8 allows you to do just that. Using the proximity sensors located near the top of the device, the handset can tell when youve placed it next to your ear and will automatically answer the call.

Customize the LED for certain notifications

LED notifications are handy when your phone is muted as they allow you to see when youve got messages awaiting your attention. You can customise when the LED fires by going to Settings > Display & Gestures > Notification Light.

Change channels with your phone

The HTC One M8 boasts an IR blaster, which means you can use it as a conventional remote control to change channels, toggle the volume and generally perform other tasks. Youll need to tell the phone which brand of TV you own for it to work properly, but once youve done this youll never have to fumble around the living room for your remote ever again. Youll find this feature in the TV app.

Free up storage by saving your photos to an SD card

The HTC One M8 comes with a memory card slot, which means you can free up valuable internal storage space by purchasing cheap and roomy external media. After fitting the card you should see a prompt appear the next time you open the camera application which will give you the option to save all videos and photos to SD. You can change back to internal storage at any time by dipping into the camera apps settings menu.

Show your battery level as a percentage

By default, the HTC One M8 displays your current battery stamina as an icon rather than a percentage, which gives a quick visual indication of how much juice remains in the tank but isnt entirely precise. Thankfully, you can display a percentage by going to Settings > Power > Show Battery Level.

Enable developer mode

Android phones come with Developer Mode disabled by default, largely because the options included within it arent going to make a lot of sense to novices. However, there are certain things youll want to do which require this mode to be active, and switching it on is really easy - drop into Settings > About > Software Information > More, and then tap the "Build" section several times until you see a prompt informing you that you are now a developer.

Make your phone even faster by enabling ART runtime

With Developer Mode enabled (see the previous hint) you can switch on the experimental ART runtime. Android currently uses Dalvik Runtime, but Google is going to move over to ART in a future update. ART is a "Ahead of time" compiler, and should - in theory - make your phone feel faster. You can always revert back to Dalvik if you dont find it to your liking, but we think that the difference is genuinely noticeable.

Create an animated GIF from a Zoe clip

HTCs Zoe shooting mode complies a video from a set of images, and is a great way to share precious moments with others. Its even easier to exchange these memories thanks to the option to transform a segment of a Zoe clip into an animated GIF file, which can be viewed on most phones, tablets and computers. Simply select the Zoe clip, tap "Edit" and then select "GIF Creator".

Snap a selfie in double-quick time

Selfies are relatively tiresome, but they seem to be in fashion at the moment, and HTC is making sure it stays on the cutting-edge by including a "Selfie" shooting mode in the One M8s camera app. Simply tap the Shot Type icon in the bottom-right corner of the camera application and select Selfie, and the front-facing camera will be ready for your moment of vain, self-indulgent glory.

Transfer data from your old phone

While moving from one Android phone to another is fairly easy thanks to the fact that much of your data is tied to your Google account, its less straightforward to move from another phone maker, such as Apple. HTC has your back though and has included a transfer option which allows you to port a surprisingly large amount of content and data over from your previous device.

Enable faster typing

Trace-to-type has been available on Android for ages thanks to the availability of the Swype keyboards, but many handset makers are now baking it into the firmware - and HTC is no exception. When the keyboard is open, long-press the key with the "cog" icon to access the keyboard settings menu. Make sure "Trace keyboard" is ticked and youre away.

Secure your phone with Kid Mode

Smartphones are amazing, and given how much they keep adults occupied its little wonder that kids are just as enthralled by them. However, before handing over your shiny new HTC One M8 to your offspring to keep them quiet during a long car journey youll want to make sure that they dont mess about with your settings or access any apps they shouldnt.

Thats where Kids Mode comes in. You can turn it on by long-pressing the power button and selecting Kids Mode, and once triggered, it can only be disabled by entering the owners date of birth and a unique pin code.

Mute your ringer without cutting off the caller

Unwanted calls are bad enough, but having to end them during a meeting to ensure that your ringtone doesnt annoy anyone is even worse - not least because the caller knows youve willfully cut them off.

With the HTC One M8 you can avoid this potentially sticky situation by simply flipping your phone over when it rings; the callers phone will continue to ring through, making it seem less like youre trying to avoid them.

Access Quick Settings even faster

Swipe down with two fingers from the top of the screen and youll notice that instead of the usual notifications pane youll be presented with your Quick Settings page - a screen that normally takes another tap to access.

Customize Quick Settings to suit your needs

The Quick Settings menu is packed with handy shortcuts, but you may find that some are less useful than others. Fear not, as you can mess about with the order of the settings by tapping the Pen and Paper icon in the top-right corner of the screen. Using this method, you can push up the more important toggles to the top of the Quick Settings menu.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S tips and tricks

Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S is onother great smart phone which become very popular. Sony has issued a software update for Xperia Arc S, and now you can run it on Ice Cream Sandwich.

Here are some tips and tricks for Xperia Arc S:

Enable auto App updates

Android has a feature allowing you to update Applications automatically. This is turned off by default, but you can turn it on.

Open the Android market, then Menu - My Apps.

Then you need to open up each installed App and tick Allow Automatic Updating at the bottom. Unfortunately you do need to do this for each App.

Turn off App update notifications

If you would prefer not to be told every time an Application has been updated, open the Android Market - Menu - My Apps. Then Menu again. Then Settings. Under General settings, untick the Notifications option.

Increase security with a custom unlock pattern

Instead of the simple swipe gesture to unlock your phone, you can set a custom unlock pattern which can be extremely difficult for a thief to guess.

From your homescreen, go to Menu - Settings - Location and security - Change screen lock. Then chose Pattern to set one up.

It is also a good idea to untick Use visible pattern. Then if someone is watching over your shoulder while you entering your pattern, it will be harder for them to remember the pattern.

If you have forgotten your unlock pattern, then after 5 unsuccessful tries a button will appear saying Forgot pattern. Press this and you will be asked to enter your Gmail username/password. The phone will then ask for a new unlock pattern. If you dont have a Gmail account, then you will have to either call your carrier or factory reset your phone.

Make Xperia Arc S run faster

By turning off the animations, your phone will run faster and smoother. Press Menu -> Settings -> Sounds & Display -> Animation. Turn this to Off. The Off option works best for quickest performance.

Quickly see date

Simply press the top-left corner of the screen.

Remove a whole text message conversation

If you want to remove an entire text message thread, go into Messages and look for the thread. Then long press on it and select Delete thread.

Accents and special characters

If you want to type non-English letters (eg those with an accent), long-press on the relevant letter. A list of options will appear for you to select.

Adding pauses when dialling

To add pauses when dialing numbers, or storing numbers in your contacts, then insert a comma ( , ) when entering the number.

This will pause the dialling for about 2 seconds.

Bookmark a web page on your homescreen

To bookmark a website on your homescreen, go into your browser and find the bookmark of the page you want to create a shortcut for.

Then long press on the bookmark and select Add Shortcut to Home.

If you regularly visit certain websites, this can be handy as you will have a shortcut to the site on your homescreen.

Nokia 1800 and Nokia 1616 Insert Sim Card Problem Solutions

Heres a complete repair guide to fix Nokia 1800 and Nokia 1616 Insert Sim Card problem issues. This solution shows the complete line paths of the SIM card circuit which we can used for easy troubleshooting procedures, including its connection to the IC components solder ball bumps.

Nokia 1800 and Nokia 1616 Sim card circuit connection layout
nokia

The Sim card circuit of Nokia 1616 and Nokia 1800 used an  EMI filter chip for the circuit protection.
This EMI filter IC can be damaged if an excessive electromagnetic interference or electrostatic discharge interfere with the circuit. The Vsim which is the voltage being supplied to the sim card to make it work also cause the problem if being cut or damaged, this voltage range from 1.8  to 2.4 volts, the voltage varies according to the type of SIM card.

Repair hints for Insert SIM card Problem repair procedures:
1. You may check the circuit surroundings first and see to it that it is free from dirt, foreign object and corrosion, a corroded components may also cause the problem, clean it first as necessary.

2. You may start to check the VSIM line paths continuity  by using a multimeter, start from the VSIM capacitor   through to the SIM card pin connector, to check if that said line is okay.

3. Check the ground line of the sim card pin connector, If the ground line is cut it also cause the problem.

4. Remove the EMI filter chip if the above check up is okay, check the EMI filter IC internal line paths, from solder bumps; A2 and A3 are the line for the the SIM data and the resistance value is 100ohms, B1 and B3 SIM reset, the resistance value is 100 ohms also and then C1 and C3 for the SIM clock signals which has a resistance of 47 ohms. Replace it if found busted or damaged, you can easily find a replacement for it in other non working Nokia cell phone models PCB board that has an EMI filter IC also, just look for the solder bumps configuration if its same.

5. This part may need an adequate experience and extra care to handle with or you may end up killing the phone, if you are a beginner mobile phone techie  you may need to ask assistance to your head tech or a senior and most experience one technician before doing this procedure.
Now if all the above does not solve the problem, you may need to reflow, rework, remove the main IC labeled X-gold 110, then check the solder bumps continuity through to the SIM pin connectors, then reball it and in-place it back.
